Image Exchange

CRISP DC’s Image Exchange & Imaging Worklist is a cutting-edge tool designed to reform the way healthcare providers access and manage medical images. Supporting a wide range of Radiology and Cardiology imaging modalities, including X-Rays, CT scans, MRI, Ultrasound, PET-CT, and Cardiac Angio, our platform ensures comprehensive coverage for diverse patient needs.

Key Features:

Image-Enabled Results Reporting: Access images alongside reports directly from the patient’s health record, ensuring a comprehensive view of patient data.

HIE-Wide Patient Worklist: Compare images across multiple locations, facilitating seamless collaboration and enhancing diagnostic accuracy.

Transfer-to-PACS: Effortlessly transfer external priors into a local Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), streamlining workflow and optimizing resource utilization.

Emergent Workflow: Enable quick access to emergent images for consults and patient transfers, particularly beneficial for stroke networks and critical care settings.

Benefits for Healthcare Professionals:

  • Direct access to shared images within the HIE Portal and the patient’s health record.
  • Reduction in the need for additional scanning and image processing, saving time and resources.
  • Enhanced collaboration and diagnostic capabilities across healthcare networks.
  • Seamless integration with existing workflows, maximizing efficiency and productivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Image Exchange allows clinicians to view prior patient imaging (CT, MRI, X-ray, etc.) from other organizations directly through the CRISP DC Portal or within the EHR (InContext). This helps providers quickly review prior studies, reduce duplicate imaging, and make faster clinical decisions.

The tool is available at no cost through the CRISP DC Portal or InContext.

Any authorized CRISP DC Portal user who has access to a patient’s record can view available imaging studies. This tool is commonly used by:

  • Clinicians and physicians
  • Emergency department providers
  • Specialists
  • Inpatient care teams
  • Radiology and PACS staff
  • Medical records staff
  • Consulting providers involved in patient care

Access is user-based.

Any user with a CRISP DC Portal account and permission to view patient records can access Image Exchange. Organizations do not have to share images for their users to view images shared by other participating organizations.

Radiology and cardiology modalities such as:

  • CT scans
  • MRI’s
  • X-rays
  • Ultrasounds
  • Mammography
  • PET scans, and others are available through Image Exchange.

Availability depends on which participating organizations share imaging studies through the network.

Organizations contribute images through two main steps:

    1. Sharing radiology reports with the HIE through an ORU interface feed.
    2. Connecting their PACS to the Image Exchange network so imaging studies can be retrieved when users access them through the Imaging Worklist.

Once configured, imaging studies from that organization become available to authorized users viewing the patient’s record.

First, confirm that:

  • You are viewing the correct patient record
  • The patient match is accurate

Next, use the Imaging Worklist filters to search by:

  • Study date
  • Modality
  • Location
  • Study description

If imaging still does not appear, the organization where the study was performed may not currently share images through Image Exchange.

If you continue to experience issues, contact CRISP support at support@crisphealth.org for assistance.

If images do not open:

  • Check that your browser is not blocking pop-ups
  • Confirm you are logged into the CRISP DC Portal or InContext session
  • Refresh the page and reopen the report

If the problem persists, contact CRISP support at support@crisphealth.org.

Some organizations share radiology reports only and do not currently share imaging studies.

When this occurs, you will see the report, but the associated images will not be available.

The viewer includes several image manipulation tools, such as:

  • Zoom and pan
  • Rotate or flip images
  • Brightness and contrast adjustments
  • Linear measurement
  • Angle measurement
  • Ellipse ROI
  • Freeform ROI
  • Cobb angle
  • Triangulation

Images may also be exported or printed when appropriate.

The Imaging Worklist may display up to 20 years of prior imaging, depending on participation from organizations that share images.
